This is Adriana at a rock formation on the island. No one knows for
sure how these rocks got here. The current thinking is that they ended
up this way after a volcano created the island. The entire north
shore of the island is edged by cliffs of ancient coral, some 40 feet
above sea level. There are stories that the old people tell, of an earth
quake that raised the floor of the sea right out of the water. There
are other rock formations on the island as well, most of dolomite.
The favorite sport on the island depends on whom you ask. The locals
love soccer and baseball. The tourists love windsurfing. Why? Because
of the constant Trade Winds and the relatively flat water. The Windsurf Village
on Aruba is a great place to camp out with the camera. Many top
professionals of the world stay and practice right in front of the
Village. Most all the hotels have windsurfing included in the
watersports packages. Just ask. Or rent a board and get some
instruction from The Windsurf Village. We didn't try windsurfing,
either.
So, we hope you've enjoyed our little trip to Aruba.
It is one of the best
places we've found on earth, and we keep going back.
